I was thinking about what to do for your birthday and realised I've already done songs, websites, PDFs, emails and enough nonsense ki tu restraining order le le. Thank you for not doing it:p
Then I thought of something.
When I look back at everything, the most useful thing you left behind wasn't just memories. It was also lessons.
Not intentionally, of course. I don't think you ever sat down and thought, "Aaj Inder ko kuch sikhate hain."
But maine toh kaafi seekha and here goes:
1 · Zidd
Before I met you, I thought being ziddi was a bad thing.
Then I met you.
Once you decided something, bas fir ho gaya. Discussion khatam.
Meanwhile, I can spend 45 minutes deciding what to order and still make mistakes.
Over time I realised there is something powerful about just deciding and moving.
Even today, when I'm confused, I sometimes think, "Khushi kya karti?"
Not because tujhe sab sahi pata hai but atleast you would do it. And that is something that i still lack.
2 · Focus
You were always exactly where you were.
If you were studying, you were studying.
If you were working, you were working.
If you were talking to someone, you were talking to someone.
On the other hand, mera dimaag toh hamesha 17 tabs khol ke rakhta hai. Ek work. Ek health. Ek future. Ek random embarrassing memory from 2011. Aur ek tab jo freeze hua pada hai for no reason.
Watching you taught me that not everything needs attention at the same time.
Simple lesson.
Still terrible at it.
3 · Manifestation
I genuinely don't remember how many times you told me to read The Secret.
At some point it became background music.
But later I realised the lesson wasn't really the book.
You always focused on what you wanted.
Mai mostly focus karta tha on what could go wrong.
Even now whenever I catch myself spiralling into worst-case scenarios, I can almost hear your voice saying:
"Acha soch. Acha hoga."
Best advice.
4 · Humility
This one still confuses me.
If I scored 5 100/100 marks, entire Hyderabad would know.
There would be banners.
Maybe local news coverage.
You would achieve something insanely ridiculous and react with:
"Haan theek tha."
And move on.
Maybe isi liye you have always been able to achieve so much, coz it is always about the next big thing and never about what has already happened.
I still don't understand it.
I am still very impressed by it.
Only you could do it.
5 · Respect
I have spent a significant portion of my life making fun of people.
Friends.
Teachers.
Random strangers.
Mostly myself.
You somehow managed to see the good in people before the flaws.
I would notice mistakes.
You would always notice effort in the other person.
I still haven't mastered this one. But I am learning.
6 · Not Giving A Damn
I used to worry a lot about what people thought.
Friends.
Family.
Random people who had absolutely no impact on my life.
You were never bothered, atleast not initially.
People talked.
You always did what you wanted to do and with absolute conviction.
I soo want to be like you but i struggle very hard even now.
7 · Sacrifice
You were the first person I saw who genuinely understood that if you want something badly enough, you have to sacrifice something.
Time.
Comfort.
Convenience.
Sleep.
Relationship.
Something always pays the bill.
This is probably the only lesson I've been able to incorporate successfully in my life.
I've carried it into work, fitness and pretty much everything else since.
8 · Family First
Lots of people say family comes first.
You actually lived it.
Uncle aunty
Di
Simba
Over time I realised success is much more exciting when there are people around whom you actually want to share it with.
Still learning this one too.
So thank you khushi.
Not just for the memories.
Not even for the time.
But, mostly for these lessons.
It's funny how some people leave and yet keep showing up in your decisions years later.
A lot of everything that goes on in my life even today is because of you.
Wishing you a very very very very Happy birthday!
Hope you have an amazing birthday, wishing you an year full of happiness, good health, travel, achievements and also... clean fans.
Happy Birthday, Khushi.
God Bless.
